It is hard to imagine a business surviving in today’s environment without using some form of email marketing. In today’s post, I would like to share some email marketing tips for your business that you can implement and begin to build a list of repeat customers.

It has been proven that customer acquisition costs are much higher than just selling to your current customers and yet I see companies today that still don’t collect their customer’s email addresses and stay in touch with them on a regular basis.

I am going to share the methods that you can use to build an email marketing list for your business.

When implementing an email marketing protocol for your business, there are many moving parts that need to be working together in order to facilitate a smooth transition to your list.

1. The first thing that every good email marketing campaign has is a quality Lead Magnet.

What is a Lead Magnet?

A lead magnet is something that you are going to give to your subscribers for free in exchange for their email address.

Lead magnets are usually downloadable PDFs or videos that solve a particular problem in your niche.

For example, let’s say that you are in the insurance niche. You could offer a free report titled, “7 Tips to Save Big Money on your Homeowners Insurance”.

Potential clients will enter their email to get this awesome report that is going to save them a ton of money. You now have the opportunity to build a relationship with the potential client through email marketing!

2. Next you are going to need a  landing page.Marketing

What is a Landing Page?

A landing page is the web page that offers your lead magnet in exchange for the email address.

There are many services out there for creating a landing page and a simple Google search will turn them up. I prefer using a WordPress plugin as it is much less expensive and you have much more control over it.

3. Next you are going to need an autoresponder.

What is an Autoresponder?

An autoresponder is a company that stores all of your email addresses and has a system in place for sending them emails.

There are many different autoresponders out there, here are a few of the more popular ones:

  • GetResponse
  • MailChimp
  • ConstantContact
  • InfusionSoft

 

All of these companies do pretty much the same thing, although pricing can vary dramatically, so shop around.

Ok, you have everything set up and you have your first subscriber.

4. Sending Emails

What kind of Emails Should you be Sending?

The biggest mistake that most companies make when it comes to email marketing is sending only promotional emails, or an email newsletter once a month.

This is the perfect opportunity to build a trusting relationship with your potential customers.

Use the opportunity to do exactly that!

Here are the 3 Types of Emails that you Should be Sending.

  1. Content Emails
  2. Relationship Emails
  3. Promotional Emails

Let’s break them down…

Content Emails – These are the emails that you are going to be sending the most and they will consist of sharing valuable things with your subscribers.

You could share blog posts that you find relevant, or send them more lead magnets that will provide value to their lives.

The whole idea with these emails is to provide value without asking for anything in return.

Remember, you are building a relationship.

Relationship Emails – These emails will consist of sharing personal stories and information.Relationship Emails

You should be sharing photos of your family and pets. Share experiences that you have had that may interest your subscribers. Continue to build the relationship.

Remember, people are much more likely to take the advice of a friend than a stranger.

You are trying to become a trusted friend.

Promotional Emails – These are your sales emails and the important thing to remember is that they simply will not work unless they are used in conjunction with the other 2 types of emails.

Use these sparingly!
